This one was quite a let down unfortunately. I went in with really high expectations as it is directed by Bong Joon Ho, the director of my favourite film Parasite, but I think he may have set his own bar too high with the 2019 masterpiece as this was nowhere near the quality level that Parasite is at.

It had a weird but intriguing concept, with some fun dialogue and interactions between the characters, all of which were performed well…

I’ve learnt to lower my expectations of Marvel’s projects nowadays. It’s no secret that the quality of them has massively dropped in recent years. So although, this made my most anticipated movies of the year list a few weeks ago, my excitement for this film pretty much became non-existent on the lead up to its release.

And unfortunately, I was right to limit my expectations as we have yet another middle of the road film on our hands here. It…

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

    ★★★½

Quite possibly my favourite of the franchise. I wasn’t sure how it would work seeing a more mature Bridget now she’s had some life experience and has children, but it was actually a really moving story. Of course she still gets up to her usual shenanigans, but the themes this film tackles are pretty deep, but they’re handled really well.

Renée Zellweger did a really good job returning to this role and keeping the youthful playfulness of Bridget’s character whilst…

This started off well but very quickly became the typical, cheap action movie that we’ve come to expect from Netflix. It was great to see Cameron Diaz back on screen though, and she had great chemistry with Jamie Foxx.

    Renfield

    ★★★

Although not necessarily a good film, Renfield is a fun time, mainly down to the charismatic performances of Hoult, Cage and Awkwafina. The action sequences are really well-directed and choreographed, but in certain moments, they overdo it with the gore, making it difficult to fully see what's going on at times. The story itself is an intriguing one, and this film has a very interesting way of portraying certain themes. But I think where it struggles the most is with…

    The Bubble

    ★★

Now I can handle cheese, but this was just too far. I was quite looking forward to this, mainly because of the concept and the cast, but it was a huge disappointment. The script really let it down because the actors had nothing decent to work with. It was also just too long and felt like it was going on forever. The beginning wasn’t that bad, but it just got worse as it went on. I still loved Karen Gillan though.
