  Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun 90min ride. A script that is neither good nor clever enough to make this work the way it wants to. 

  Also Pierce Brosnan is looking fantastic, wish we got more of him in this.

  Every great director should get a blank check to make a sci-fi movie.

  The big challenge of Mickey 17 for me is that it was stuck between trying to be something more philosophical vs. trying to be satire — failing to thread the admittedly tough needle that creates.  It teeters on the line of going full “Starship Troopers while teasing a deeper study of the human condition a la an “Ex Machina.” This is felt the most in the middle…

  The Brutalist 2024

  Part 1 is tremendous and feels as though it is building towards something monumental… but then Part 2 begins and everything seems to come off the rails (no pun intended). There is no drop in the visual marvel, that remains consistent throughout (seeing in 70MM was stunning), but the narrative focus seems to scatter entering the second half. Will definitely need to sit with this more before I fully solidify my opinions.
