this had potential but was ultimately messy and unfocused. i started lowkey losing interest during the second half. the movie is a silly satire of a lot of shit happening today (late stage capitalism and the objectification of workers) and may happen one day (space colonialism). it’s very bong joon ho, in that regard. some of the humor works and other aspects are annoying and cartoonish. pattinson (all versions!) really carries this movie which means other insanely talented actors — like mark ruffalo and toni collette — were not handed scripts that match their potential.

Mysterious Skin 2004
rip, michelle trachtenberg. watched this for the first time in your honor (it’s been on my list for a while). she and young JGL and brady corbet are fantastic. best performance i’ve seen from JGL. this movie is atmospheric, contemplative, heartbreaking. an excruciatingly difficult, disturbing watch at times. trauma’s a bitch and manifests in people so differently, whether they repress or act out. BEST movie soundtrack and scoring of all time. will not be revisiting this movie anytime soon but will be listening to the soundtrack often.
