I’ve waited a long time to see this film and I have to say I was massively disappointed. The audience surrogate character was boring and one dimensional, as was the two husbands. Elizabeth moss is probably the only reason that Shirley Jackson appeared at all interesting, though when you really think about it, she wasn’t. I know it was a fiction, but I feel like a biography could’ve worked better with this casting.

BEEF 2023
By the time episode 9 ended I was thinking a24 don’t know how to end a show (having also watched the curse). But half way through ep 10 I realised they don’t know how to start a show, the first 8 episodes were not leading to police shoot outs, kidnapping, bisections and concious crows.
I enjoyed both equally but not together, it was just an attempt to end on a shock, which is an a24 staple, slow patient storytelling often becomes frenzied see what sticks conclusions.

Wrong Turn 2003
What is there to say about wrong turn? It's a slasher...set in the wilderness...and the villains are cannibal hillbillys...so straight off there isn't very much originality here (gas station portent anyone?). But here we have two strong leads who both prove they're capable time and time again and three well designed villains who are vicious and unrelenting.
I can see why people might not like this film, but I love it enough to overlook its shortcomings and enjoy the gore.
