A Real Pain 2024
Fuller didn't go easy on the Pepsi. Or weed.
I can see how Kieran Culkin won the best support actor Oscar for this role. His character was interesting and extremely well played, even if I wanted to sometimes beat Benji with a tire iron. He is by contrasts manic and wild and owns and room while being entirely inside his own head, often for the worse.

It's been more than a day since I watched it and I'm still processing this movie. No exaggeration when they say it's like nothing else. All the praise and all the criticisms are correct. It could've used 30 minutes of trimming but it needed to be an hour longer, too. It's making a million statements, not tying up loose ends, and it's high camp amid dead earnestness. Every actor is acting in a different movie. It's batshit in the best…

This is a fairly faithful adaption of parts of the epistolry novel, and Coppola's achievement is making the titular character sympathetic, human, erotic, and terrifying, played with gusto by Gary Oldman. Coppola, who added a storyline making Dracula the historic Vlad the Impaler, is an interesting take beyond the novel, but he famously miscast young Keanu Reeves and…
