Wow kinda blown away. As someone who loves the 2002 adaptation and knows the story...this still felt very new and surprising. Beautiful music and cinematography. The acting is great and while I can't say I know a lot about French actors, there's definitely some talent with the younger actors/actresses here.
Main critique is the beginning/setup of the film felt very rushed and didn't explore a lot of the depth there is of Edmond before he becomes the count of Monte Cristo.

"No, I'm not a hero, but I served in a company full of them"

There truly isn't a more perfect series. Last watched this 10+ yrs ago for the first time. I won't be waiting that long again. Man. Incredible series on the pain, the fear, the cold, the blood, the loneliness, the confusion of war, but also the courage, the perseverance, the camaraderie, the sacrifice, the leadership...the culmination of 8 episodes of that leading into episode 9 titled "Why We Fight", is just so incredibly powerful.

Had a lot of fun in the beginning, but kinda bored by the end was with cliche decisions. I like Toni Collete....but that sauce obsession was weird.

This has always been *that* movie everyone seems to lose their minds when they find out I haven't seen it. I've seen it now

I did really like it though

I don't really know how to review this film. It is very abstract and I was lost for more of it than I'd like to admit. The camera work and cinematography really needs no introduction, incredible. I like that is tries to give perspectives on the tough religious questions of existence or why a good God would allow good (or bad) people to suffer. May need a rewatch down the road, maybe I'll understand it more.

Probably pure nostalgia talking, but they really don't make comedies like this anymore...so funny
