  Tom Conti and Takeshi were the real stars in the movie for me. I enjoyed watching them on screen far more than David Bowie or Ryuichi Sakamoto. Not to take away from their performance, but I guess I had expected to see more of Bowie and Sakamoto than what was shown. The score is a 11/10 for me, Ryuichi Sakamoto just absolutely crushed it like he always did.

  The main part was meant for a different actor (Shintaro Katsu), but Nakadai was perfect, in my opinion, for this role. Katsu came in and was pretty much being a jerk to Kurosawa, so Nakadai was then offered the part. Nakadai felt like he hadn’t done the part justice and knew that it would’ve been better, had Katsu played it, but I loved Nakadai in this role. I feel that it’s better this way.
