I love what Nicholas Cage has been doing recently with his career, cherrypicking his roles, making smaller projects with interesting fresh filmmakers. This one is a litmus test for a true movie star and he passes to no surprise, finding small pockets of comedy in an otherwise really boring, unlikable character (especially one scene had me in stitches). But this is way more than just a showcase for Cage. Apart from being a cleverly shifting fever dream it also shines as a razor-sharp satire on fame-culture in the 2020s. Recommended indeed.

I've always been a humongous admirer of Eddie Murphy - even when the script isn't really doing anything for the movie, he is. So is the case with this long delayed fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop-franchise. The movie feels like driving around for two hours in a Grand Theft Auto game, except less funny. And while 'old school' is preferable to whatever the hell the third movie was doing, aside from a Shooter McGavin-cameo, this one is close to being just as forgettable. Should have left it in the 80s.

I simply cannot vouch for this one. What a mess. It has the R-rating and some bananas action going for it but the stakes never felt lower. And while David Harbour is actually good in the titular role he is worn down by not one, but two bad sidekicks. They should have just focused on him instead. And better CGI.

I'm already head over heels. He did it. Living up to that enormous and daring title "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is a Tarantino wonder dream coming true effortlessly right in front of our eyes. I could have stayed in the theater for a couple more hours. The sets, the songs, the outfits. The time capsule never seemed more bolted. What an absolute astonishing achievement. And thank you Quentin for introducing the world to Cliff Booth.
