A Real Pain 2024
Remembering a time when I too was so stoned I was stuck on the home screen of a hotel television where the library music was surprisingly banging.
Sharply written for sad boy millennials and probably hits even harder for those of Jewish descent. A nice walk-n-chat film that doesn’t get too annoyingly heady or emo, though Kieran’s damningly realistic performance got me well into my feelings.
A Real Pain is as much a story about a third generation immigrant’s sense…

Rumours 2024
My thoughts during this movie:
1. How the hell did they get Cate Blanchett in this?
2. This would be funnier if Russia was still a member
3. Every time I’m tired now I’m gonna say “I’m having an energy crisis” and lie down
4. This soft focus makes them seem like ghosts, are they ghosts?
5. This is pretty much how I imagined summits
6. How the hell did they get Cate Blanchett in this?Silly, Silly, Silly.

Sweet Home Alabama 2002
All this just to punch the mayor of New York City in the face, albeit the funniest part of the movie.
I’m from Alabama and I do not claim this. Poor Josh Lucas as a knock-off McConaughey leading man, and just why Reese, why?!
Oh and now I just read that one of the writers is from Chicago and the other is from Nevada and is LDS (or formerly, at least). Now I’m mad all over again!

Eraserhead 1977
Kafkaesq…sorry I mean, Lynchian.
So happy to see this on the big screen for the first time.
I’m realizing more and more these days just how well Lynch really has his finger on the pulse of male fragility and insecurity. It’s also wonderful to see the birth of the symbolism that is carried on through the rest of his career.
I’d be lying if I said I finally “got it” or something this time and I do honestly feel like…
