  Bob is sad. In an effort to avoid being a perfunctory bio-pic the film ends up lacking interiority. While I don’t want the Patton Oswalt’s “movie moment of irony” scene, I do need to know why Bob is sad. Also Timothee, bless him, just looks so consistently young that no amount of wiggery can make it seem like more than a few months have passed when I logically understand it to be years. I think Mangold’s fanboying assumes all audiences have the base knowledge to understand why any of this is significant. It lacks context on every level.

  When the movie ended my first thought was, “well I’ve never seen anything like that before.” 

  There are problems, endless problems, but I will say that in the grand tradition of recent Cannes winners,  I’ve never seen anything like it before….

  And I’ll likely never see it again.
