  resident gender studies degree holder here feeling baffled by the reviews reducing this film to 2010’s sex-as-ultimate-empowerment feminism. this movie frames sex as neither inherently empowering or disempowering and that’s kind of….the entire point. the empowerment lies not in the act of sex but in her shameless, yes clumsy reckless messy exploration of her body, her pleasure, and sex as a social & interpersonal phenomenon. and by the end of the film, after sufficient self-affirming exploration, she shifts her attention away…
