If you’re going into this expecting any kind of reflection on current U.S. politics, you’re going in with the wrong expectations. Honestly it feels somewhere between Shakespeare and Faust. The film explores the idea of unrest in America. Neighbor vs neighbor, person vs a vague idea of government. And for what? That’s the question here—what does visualization of pain and war actually do besides aggrandize war? And what does ‘every’ American do with the image of war in their minds?…
I know it’s no one’s actual favorite or whatever, but deep in my gay little heart I love this movie. I could microanalyze it forever, it is a sheer ode to camp.
I’m so glad I got to see this movie before a wildfire started by a gender reveal party got me. That being said the theater experience was a little weird. No air conditioning, no surround sound speakers, very poor visual and audio quality. Oh wait...I streamed it on my laptop, suck it Chris Nolan!
