  the slow mo cavalry charge was worth 3 stars alone. sadly the rest of the film doesn’t carry its weight. wellingtons character carries here. infected by european nationalism yet desperate to be anti war in the way war and peace was. copies a lot of shots from war and peace verbatim. some strange attempt perhaps to outdo war in peace in spectacle but completely misses what it was about? in the end this was really mediocre

  did not really care for this. cinema du look was done better by martin scorsese. the twists and turns in this & strange offputting oddities are not enough to keep me interested and instead remind me of strange and gross 80s european b-film contemporaries (particularly the pedophilic der fan) that only serve to make my viewing experience uncomfortable. anyways 80s soviet cinema was crushing it at the time this was made & we were on the eve of getting china's blue kite…

  Craziest part of this is everything I am about to say is completely and utterly genuine. Like I really mean it all. Yes even the part where I say this is a comforting movie somehow.
