Now Watching: Inglorious Basterds
A team of Jewish soldiers are dropped behind enemy lines to terrorize the Nazis in World War II. Tarantino’s last great film plays with history to tell an entertaining tale of vengeance. Outstanding performances by Christoph Waltz and especially Melanie Laurent. The final movie of Tarantino’s long time editor Sally Menke, who I can tell you he misses deeply. No one else seems to be able to get the same quality out of his work that Menke did.
Now Watching: Django Unchained
A freed slave sets out with a German bounty hunter in a quest to free his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation. Outrageously bloody and violent, the team of Jamie Foxx and Chistoph Waltz has legitimate connection, effortlessly playing off one another. Leonardo DiCaprio is delishiously vile as the plantation owner Tarantino made a blood soaked western with style to spare.
Now Watching: Dawn Breaks Behind The Eyes
A couple are seemingly trapped in a castle as reality unravels around them. With a throw back to Hammer horror movies and a clear love of filmmaking, this is super trippy and stylized. But this is an art film first for sure.
