One of the most important modern films. Cristian Mungiu has the ability to distill the terrifying down to a compressed timeline. He suspends tension through long takes at waist level (influenced by Ozu’s cinematography). I’m still speechless how someone could make this caliber of a film as their second feature. It took Ingmar Bergman 15 or so features before creating his first masterpiece film. But Mungiu, like Tarkovsky, gets it right almost immediately.

Self-indulgent and shallow; lacking depth. I love Greta, but couldn’t connect with Lady Bird.
