In the end I thought it was a good fun movie. But it was pulling me in a lot of different directions too. I wish the central conflict revolved more around the human reprinting shenanigans and not the monsters (as cool as they were) because I felt like there was a lot more unique storytelling and ethical dilemma potential there. Compared to the pretty generic "cartoonishly evil leader is hell bent on wiping out innocent race of creatures to assert dominance" that the movie turned into.
