I work in animation, motion design and video production. I love movies the way people who aren’t crazy love sports.

I'd read a lot about the irony of Frank Tashlin bringing so much live-action style to the short cartoons he directed at Warer Bros. and Screen Gems - while alternately making some of the most cartoony live-action comedies of the 1950s.

Well, seeing is believing. Other than a few scenes of Edmund O'Brien being forced to relate surprisingly excessive amounts of exposition in one CinemaScope framed shot (at least he has room to pace back & forth in the widescreen frame),…

I had no idea Shonda Rhimes co-wrote this.

It’s almost literally The Bad Seed for Dummies - every implicit action, suggested thought, and subtextual element in the play and/or 1956 movie is spelled out in big bright flashing neon signage.

That being said, dumbed-down The Bad Seed is still fairly entertaining, both on purpose and in spite of itself. This Christine Penmark seems a little too active and on-the-ball of a mother to make the story fully plausible.
