    Fear Street: 1994

I know I’m a few years late in getting to these FEAR STREET Netflix movies that were generally well-reviewed and well-liked by genre fans at the time. I just never prioritized them. BUT, I have an 11-year old niece who’s starting to become a horror movie fan (especially interested in movie makeup effects) and on a recent trip out to see family, she wanted to watch a horror movie with me. As a proud cinephile uncle, I was more than…

(Both the magician and the audience member start weeping)

Part magic show, part filmed one man show, part Ted talk, part therapy session, IN & OF ITSELF is occasionally fascinating, surprisingly moving and, to me, pretty full of itself.

    Maybe it's because I'm generally…

Watching this alongside UNBREAKABLE and SPLIT was fascinating...what a strange, yet ultimately satisfying trilogy. I like this more than most critics...there's a lot going on thematically and visually that's too weird/interesting to dismiss. But the low budget still keeps it from reaching its full potential (even though Night seems to owe his recent comeback to finding creativity within budget constraints). It's not the UNBREAKABLE followup I always wanted...but I still enjoyed spending time with these characters again and I admire…
