  Cheap tricks slathered over the most clichéd plot imaginable somehow make this a masterpiece? Haha ok. 

  You can see every bland provocation, every dull gag, every stupid freak out coming from a mile away. 

  Yeah yeah the maximalism is part of the point. Maybe have a point to begin with. 

  Dumb and boring.

  So torn on this one. The first half is good. It’s slow and patient, but it builds to some truly terrifying sequences. I felt like I was watching a horror movie during the tank sequence. What I also liked about the first half is that it focuses on just how young these soldiers are. It’s one of the only war movies that I’ve seen to highlight that the main characters are basically just kids.
