    I was really surprised by this. The animation is relatively basic for a Ghibli film but this is a really enjoyable, funny and surreal story that I enjoyed way beyond my expectations. And actually the animation is stunning in places.

    LOVED how this ended. Need to rewatch now I know it ends so well. Must confess to being a little confused and detached up until the last twenty minutes. Kim Hye-Ja is fantastic in this, a face as morose and pitiful as Song Kang-ho's. Plenty of characteristically clever, tense surprising and wickedly funny sequences. And the characteristic tragic/melancholic undertow.

    This must have been quite something in 1922, and it's still quite something in 2025, but I have to be honest and say it didn't really grab me by the throat and drain my blood like I was hoping.

    It made me want to rewatch Eggers version, which I didn't realise was so closely related to this one. (E.G. I'd assumed Eggers invented Knock.)
