  The one way I heard this movie described beforehand (other than beautiful) was confusing, which I can’t agree with– though I do, I think, understand. The majority of the film takes place in a world that is mysterious and full of phenomena and rituals not fully explained. What’s with all the birds? The little dolls? The zappy rocks? Idk. What’s the history of this world? Doesn’t matter. It’s there, and so are we, right now. We can’t go back into…

  There’s a good movie in here somewhere, stuck between horror and despair, and unfortunately choosing all too often the former. There were some great moments, but it felt like the heart of it didn’t quite match with the delivery, causing it to fumble at some of its most critical points.
