This was a total grandpa movie but I did enjoy it. Maybe I’m getting old. A well plotted British spy movie, I almost always love movies like this. It’s all very twisty & turny and I only understand about 85% of everything. I’m a dumb American, what do you want from me?

Great cast and several very exciting sequences. Slow paced and mature. Mission Impossible, this is not. I wouldn’t rush to the cinema for this one but you wouldn’t be too upset after watching this for 90 minutes.

Oof that voiceover was just brutal, right? Voiceover into flashback into news broadcast. That opening act was an exposition lasagna. I was mostly on board but as things progressed, this just got messier and messier. Too many plots fighting for relevancy and then this ultimately goes nowhere. Never a good sign when I’m thinking “how is this not over yet???” during the pointless epilogue. Generic sci-fi idea soup or should I say, sauce.

I am TRULY thankful Jerrod Carmichael has seemingly been given full control of HBO’s standup slate. He’s putting out some of the most unique and visually interesting stand up specials I’ve ever seen. Between this, Drew Michael’s, and his own, you’ve got some lovingly made comedy.

The whole special is shot in a gymnasium in Crenshaw while the sun is setting. Lil Rel is performing in direct sunlight in a sweatsuit and you’re wondering why did they do this? But…
