Really wanted to like this one - but it was all just a little too on the nose for me. On paper “space-opera-political-sci-fi-satire” from legendary director Bong Joon-Ho sounds like a dream come true - but the whole film is really poorly paced and is mired by middling acting and writing that was somewhat shocking to see in a Bong film. Some of the line delivery from supporting characters had student film vibes and were pretty eye roll inducing.

I’ve once again fallen victim to Neon’s 11/10 marketing campaigns, only to be sucked into a hollow pit of a film with little positive to say about it. Schrader conjures up some fleeting moments of brilliance here, and manages to touch on some core truths regarding mortality, memory, and the relationship between fact & fiction - but the reality is, the film is set within a shaky framework that constantly undermines your ability to establish a lasting relationship with its characters. While it’s constant jumping back and forth between its protagonists past and present opens the film up thematically, it…
