This is a perfect movie. There’s nothing about it that doesn’t work. It has everything: star-crossed lovers, heartache, unrequited love, father-son bonding, men in chain necklaces, a jukebox, gambling, assassins, noodles, smoking indoors, yearning, pig riding, a <15mm lens, weird gun masturbation, Leon Lai who is arguably the sexiest man alive, and Takeshi Kaneshiro who is arguably the second sexiest man alive. There will never be another filmmaker like Wong Kar-Wai.

There’s certainly more to say here about where Hong Kong was…

I haven’t seen this yet but in premise alone I have a feeling this was created for late bloomers with Ivy League (adjacent) degrees who over-intellectualize even the most inane sexual experiences because it’s the only way they can really feel something.

Watching it to see if it is the vanity project I think it is

I cannot rationalize why this movie was written, cleared, cast, directed, produced and then distributed to theaters for the public to watch. I get that cocaine was the drug of the ‘80s but nothing could have prepared me for diet incest.

I have daddy issues too, but nothing close to wanting to f*ck my father in his new reincarnated body. Acceptable nowhere else but Hollyweird!

I have never seen a movie flirt with incest, AARP-approved sex, and the color beige while still being so charming. Although putting three of the most charismatic people who have ever existed all in one movie would have that effect.

Live, laugh, age gap. I guess
