  The Hunted opens up in an active warzone which Friedkin depicts as a napalm blitzed hellscape where crumbling buildings are engulfed in murky darkness and smoke with the only light being that of huge flames. Brutal opening that made me know I was in for a banger. This is super underrated, really tight and briskly paced. The psychological relationship between protagonist and antagonist as well as motive for capture/killing are a lot more personal in this than in The French Connection…

  Not top tier Friedkin and was never going to be but it’s pretty good, definitely underrated. Nolte carries this thing on his back though, he’s really damn good here. The story is engaging enough and prescient but what I enjoyed a lot was the basketball in this. I feel like a lot of sports films don’t get the sport aspect right but by casting actual college prospects who’d later. Go onto the NBA/Shaq after his rookie season and playing non-scripted…

  The best way I can describe this one is comfy. You just get to hang out with the crew again, they’re back in Vegas and the villains of the last 2 films as well as Pachino’s character all get their comeuppance. The actual heist gets convoluted but it’s so over the top you can’t help but enjoy it. Soderbergh’s visuals are still slick and silky but the lighting and colours here are standout.
