  A snapshot of a Parisian brothel at the turn of the century, this film captures the languishing time women spend together. Great soundtrack, beautiful costumes, very much a vibe kind of movie.

  So this is my favorite late 90s/early 2000s teen flick because it turns the tables on the established boy-makes-over-girl Pygmalion narrative. Melissa Joan Hart is less teen queen and more student council nerd with an angsty-punk rockish pre-Entourage Adrian Grenier who is the target of her cool guy switcharoo aspirations. Keep your eyes peeled for a cameo from the Donnas and my favorite actress of the genre, Susan May Pratt. You may recognize her from 10 Things I Hate About You and my second favorite dance movie, Center Stage.

  Somewhere between sex, madness, and the abyss of space lies High Life. A bleak future where criminals are used as reproductive test subjects on a meandering ship/space station. Robert Pattinson holds a stoic center while all folds in around him. This is the first Claire Denis film I’ve seen - I hope it won’t be my last.
