Utterly hypnotic and unbelievably horny, in a way only Kubrick could successfully pull off. Eyes Wide Shut is a masterpiece from the late auteur, a cinematic puzzle box of intrigue and depravity which makes the nearly three-hour runtime fly by. Cruise and Kidman give (arguably) career best performances, which allow the audience to sink into uncertainty of the narrative seamlessly. Every shot is a fucking audio-visual masterpiece, which gives the film a beautiful, yet deeply unsettling aesthetic. Anyone who doesn’t appreciate Eyes Wide Shut, doesn’t appreciate Kubrick in his purest and most polished form. A new all-time favorite that I cannot wait to revisit.

A man’s life forever altered by the loss of his first love. He lets life pass him by, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, unable to do anything but look forward towards an impossible reality.
There’s loads of narrative potential in Makoto Shinkai’s sophomore feature, but it’s egregiously short runtime holds it back from being anything more than visually stunning. Even with double the budget, and fourty-minutes of runtime added, 5 Centimeters Per Second would still lack the incredible characters and storytelling that the Your Name director has become known for. A film that makes for some gorgeous screenshots on your Pinterest board, and not much else.Translated from by -
Fritz the Cat 1972
Enjoyed this more than I probably should, even if there’s not much to chew on beyond Fritz The Cat’s sleazy sex hijinks. For every clever animated sequence that makes the film an enjoyable experience, there’s about twenty-pairs of animal boobs that do the opposite. If I ever catch up on my mid-century neoliberal history, I’ll inevitably want to revisit this (but I don’t see that happening anytime soon).
