I heard about the story of William Kamkwamba's windmill while learning about Malawi, and then I come to find out that Chiwetel Ejiofor, an actor I really enjoy, adapted this story as his directorial debut, so of course I had to watch.

This is a respectable debut--cinematography, soundtrack, acting, and commitment to the vision were very present, though perhaps missing a little something to make this reach true greatness. Maybe that something is just experience--I would love to see Ejiofor continue directing and building that experience.

In any case, a story very worth telling.

It's not just about love, it's about the blind hope that love can overcome something as overwhelming as dementia. The Notebook lets us live that fantasy. Such an effective frame tale. This one's as sad as people say!

Apparently this movie is based on The Little White Horse, though I see little resemblance (or maybe I just don't remember the book too well).

The movie is still great for a couple reasons:

    1. Maria (main char) has impeccable fashion.
    2. Actually, every character has a distinct sense of fashion and the costume designs are great.
    3. Hot, petty uncle who drinks wine out of crystal goblets and cries when Maria tries to question him.
    4. Classically beautiful woman…

I'm watching this yet again so this time I actually bothered to pause and read the filler headlines in the fake newspapers. Here's a list of the ones I could make out:

-Circles Will Definitely Soon Be Used More Than Squares
-Many Trees Will Be Walking Within the Next 10 Years
    -Tired Train Now Retires
    -We Love the Air
    -Huge paper waste
-Sometimes headlines don't fit in the space provided
