Absolutely drenched in pulp vibe and dripping with the reddest blood I’ve ever seen. It’s like an EC comic with a pulse. The music alone is worth the watch.

There’s a strange innocence to it, with its clumsy efforts at comedy and corny ADR; but that’s drowned out by a classic example of pure style. The flip-collar trench coat fedora wearing villain. The wonderful set design and elaborate  camerawork. The cringey kills. It all combines into an treat of a viewing experience.

It’s getting an extra star on concept alone. It’s a fun mystery chamber drama that feels almost like you’re watching a stage play at times. Very well shot; really just well executed all around. Honestly a bit boring at times but the tight runtime saves it. Worth a watch as an artsy thriller. Very minimal on the horror.

A hyper-stylized folk horror tale that works surprisingly well. Creatively adventurous and refreshing.

An extraordinary thriller. The visual vibe of George Tooker’s The Subway mixed with the classic stalker feel of Rod Serling’s The Hitchhiker. In many ways Maika Monroe mirrors Inger Stevens from that episode both in her physical charm and her balance of strength and vulnerability. Everything that made Monroe perfect for It Follows works for her here but in a subtle new way. The film looks stunning and the story is expertly written and well paced. Remarkable all around.

I am entertained. Put The Thing, Men, and Requiem for a Dream in a blender, add a dash of Kubrick, then sculpt the dough into a Tales from the Crypt comic. Gory sexy campy fun.
