As a documentary I found it only so-so; it could have been a little more respectful (and less orientalist) and it sort of hand-waved over the beliefs (how do you transition from teaching yoga to actively trying to acquire nuclear weapons?) but it’s such powerful subject matter that I still found it impactful. I can’t articulate why but something about Aum is so much darker and more disturbing to me than other cults and terrorist organizations

Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1975
We need some kind of class action lawsuit to hold accountable the Gen-X/elder millennial nerds who did their best to ruin this movie by constantly quoting all its punchlines out of context—if you played video games between 2000-2015 you have found at least 5 Holy Hand Grenade Easter eggs. But this movie is one of the times they were right to stan like that so it’s forgivable. I just think those guys should have to give everyone born after 1995 like $5 for trying so hard to make us think it’s cringe & then there’s no hard feelings

Unironically probably one of the most important movies ever made

Really captures how hard it is being a little too gay with it for your blue collar dad
