Poor Things 2023
I’ll never understand the link our culture insists there is between sexual “liberation” and self-actualization or whatever you want to call it—why should there be any link at all? Why does a man writing/directing a film about a women’s self-discovery seem to conflate curiosity/wonder at the world with libido? Or at least to treat sexual awakening as a prerequisite to intellectual awakening? (Idols of the age aside, I thought all technical aspects of the filmmaking were superb.)
