I’m impressed how many formative, “you can do that??” moments were captured in this coming of age story. I admire Sorrentino’s attitude towards the sacred and the profane, the conclusions and the loose threads of relationships, and the uncertainty of fulfillment in the reality of the film. Will seek out for more of his work.

La Ricotta 1963
What a zinger. Either Pasolini was trying to look down his nose on “modern life” or Rome really was Sodom and Gomorrah.

Conclave 2024
Good until the final twist, then it became an “important film”.
Wish we could’ve seen more of the inferiority of Lawrence’s troubled prayer life. That was mentioned once and forgotten.
Wish we could’ve spent more time with the non-progressive cardinals (as they made up at least 3/4 of each vote). Instead, we spent most of the film watching two progressive candidates fumble their monitory votes.
Wish we saw Tedesco’s response to Benitez’s mic drop monologue. Tedesco would not have been mute after that counter, and the whole drama became phony after that.
Oh well :/

The Holy Mountain 1973
I feel ill. What a stifling cinematic experience.
Life made in Jodorowsky’s image is no life at all. When truth is playdough, transcendence is attainable in two hours. Fascinatingly flawed.
