Anamorphic sucks. You're defocused point light sources better be circular. Octagons are fine too obviously.

Lol and I thought Audrey had it bad...
I agree it's a nontrivial question as to how connected the series of images and sounds that make up a film need to be in order to have artistic value. But I think we would all agree there is a rather large amount of connection required. I definitely think it's more connected than this. What a way to squander such a great idea.

I just came from watching 1883 and while I can say that it looks like this is trying to play more with characters having to face ethical dilemmas, this is a mess. Not, to Kevin's credit, a Megalopolis mess. I see what's going on, and the bones are... okay. I'm not thrilled with the decision to make this under a genera I can only assume is called "Hudson School Spaghetti Western." Particularly the dialog sounds like watered down Hateful…

Three Colours: Blue 1993
Genuinely buying into nihilism or complete rejection of the social contract as a guiding philosophy, even temporarily, is pretty middle school. The main way this film embodies liberté is that when it ends you're liberated from having to keep watching it. I'm sure the crowd of people who like Kandinsky and analyze their dreams would try to sell me on any number of subjective (and surely capriciously contrived) interpretations of what is going on here but the only one I'm buying is that there was a good premise, good cinematography, but a complete inability to execute and produce something coherent.
