My husband summed up the main character pretty well: "he's a machine that converts oxygen into falsehoods"
An utterly repellant, repugnant, loathesome main character who does nothing but shit talk, scam, and scheme, I literally screamed at the TV as things came to light. But it doesn't fall into the trap of trying to make him so horrible that he's kind of likable. He blows into town and ruins the lives of anybody who puts any faith in him, and he's portrayed as a sleazy creep who is obsessed with living his old life that likely wasn't as good as he thought it was.
