Rock-n-Roll Never Dies: The Story of The Rock-n-Roll Express

    ★★★★★

A stand-out documentary that does justice to one of the greatest tag teams of all time. Filmed when enough of their contemporaries were still alive, when the footage wasn't a licensing improbability and free of any massive mega-conglomerate meddling, here you have a breezy two hours that both goes in-depth about the Rock-N-Roll Express' career without sacrificing pacing or including a frame of filler. Great as both an introduction for new fans and trip down memory lane with exciting revelations for long-time fan club members. Recommended.

    Night of the Strangler

    ★★★

A racially-charged New Orleans whodunit with sprinkles of class warfare and a whole lot of Micky from The Monkees, 'Night of the Strangler' - despite only one strangulation which also only happens on only one night in the film (so I guess there's truth in advertising there) is an early 70s shocker that still manages to genuinely shock 50+ years later with its unrelenting pace.

First movie of the Nightmareathon tonight - first time seeing it since hosting it last year at Midnight Mayhem for a double feature with Alley Cat, and I believe the first time Joe Bob has hosted this since Drive-In Theater in the 80s.

A great start of the night sleepover movie. My horror hot take is that I actually prefer this to Slumber Party Massacre 2. Love seeing young Brinke Stevens and the girl in the fridge.

    The Phantom of the Opera

Absolutely fantastic. Turning 100 this year, the performance, pacing and AMAZING sets really keep this enduring. Take a look at that massive Operahouse, and all of those extras. It's a spectacle, a feat, a triumph. Cinema rules and it's because works of art like this exist.

The reveal is still a jaw-dropping moment in film even when you know what's coming. Lon put so much into his performance, his Phantom is such a unique character who offers up so many different ways to either sympathize, empathize or despise him.

Truly timeless. Truly a classic. Highly recommended.
