the villian of the film is racially coded to be a jewish woman. apart from her very obvious ashkenazic name “gothel”, she (the only villian in the story) is also the only character with a hooked nose, frizzy hair, and bone structure of stereotypical jewish caricatures. these stereotypes are also found in her actions as well: greedy, overbearing mother, etc.
the whole movie is a metaphor for blood libel, the anti semitic conspiracy that suggest jewish people sacrifice…

this movie was very... uncomfortable... to say the least.
i understand that it’s supposed to be satirical and a message of anti-hate blah blah blah, but the execution is so out of touch. regardless of the “message” that this movie is sending, it’s still about a boy who has a non-threatening version of hitler as an imaginary friend.
