I don’t think the bad reviews are justified, I think it’s just aimed at a younger audience than the usual Russo brothers fan base. If I was 10 I’m sure I would have loved it.
I don’t think the story, a mixed bag of high concept sci-fi and generic drama, justifies its budget but I thoroughly enjoyed the early 90’s setting.

The Next One had a short run on mid 80’s cable channels. I’ve just rewatched it 35 years later on Amazon Prime under the title ‘The Time Traveler’. It’s a strange story in that there’s no real plot to speak of. A time traveler washes up in a Greek shore, strange things happen while he connects with people and he’s imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit.
