I forgot how good Badalamenti's score is for this. And I love how still it gets sometimes.
This movie starts with a starfield and a blue Lucasfilm-esque font like a new Star Wars movie, and we literally are just hurtling through space, wondering if there's anyone else out there who thinks like us.
A remarkable collection of craft. Love the acting, the design work, the music. There is so much detail that you can't take it all in in one viewing. And actually you probably need the BTS context to explain certain choices.
I think the desire to create a thematically rich and dense work has detracted a little from fully going on a cinematic character journey with Laszlo. I was very invested in the first half, where the story is at its most simple; by the second half its "showier" aspects take over some of the storytelling, the time jumps get confusing, and the symbolism is sometimes laughable.
I feel so inspired now. And it's not just the secret mall apartment, which *needs* to be seen. I was legitimately moved by the tape art.
