Jesus... what a way to go.

Novocaine gets a lot of mileage out of it's novelty elevator pitch premise. There are some genuinely funny moments and Crank-esque antics, elevated even further by Quaid's charisma.

The film's leading lady also was a warm and likeable presence, but unfortunately she's sidelined for most of the runtime. The first fifteen or so minutes where the two develop a romance was very endearing. My favorite part of the movie, honestly. Some uncharismatic heavies (apologies…

    You just killed James Bond!

Decided to rewatch in the wake of the official end of the Broccoli era of Bond. Really stands out how the older Bond films have a real confident looseness to them. A sort of swagger that goes along with a classic suit, rather than the over-engineered stiffness and tight tailoring of Craig's later outings. The Batman

    ★★★

The Batman does a lot right. The visuals were fantastic. Lots of eye-catching imagery and set design. Gotham looks appropriately grimy and larger than life. There’s a real “east coast” feel that gave the setting some texture. Giacchino’s score is suitably rousing. There’s even some fine tuned sequences (the funeral and Batmobile chase) that land perfectly.

Honestly though, The Batman sticks out to me for the ways it’s lacking.

The story keeps promising this big, hot-shit, you-won’t-believe-it mystery… and it’s…
