All Quiet on the Western Front 1930
As advertised, it is not at all subtle and does get a bit repetitive after the very compelling opening scene sums everything up, but, it’s still very compelling and impressive despite being 400 years old. I did not care for the butterfly bit, but the very last shot is an all-timer. The Netflix remake is much more boring, but this one is a little boring too. I think I actually prefer Wings, because of its human elements and the aerial cinematography is somehow more impressive than some of the practical effects here. It’s close, though. Lots of good moments throughout.
