This one never quite takes off for me because it doesn’t really develop any of its hooks: fanny is a writer, but we get very little of her narration; slavery at times is the moral fulcrum of the film and other times completely ignored. The actors are wonderful, and all the Austen types are here. Harold Pinter at his most unctuous is fun and at times disturbing to watch. Still, worth a watch and I appreciate that they reached for something more with this adaptation.
Less of a fun time than the American guy pierce version or the book, but a much deeper swimming pool. Get ready to cry.
