An Unmarried Woman 1978
There’s a moment where the music swells after Erica (Jill Clayburgh) and Saul (Alan Bates) have hit it off and we think we’re in the start of a romantic montage— but instead we cut to Erica ice skating with her friends at Rockefeller Plaza. Antiporno 2016
Though Sono cranks the weird, exploitation and primary colors to 11, ANTI-PORNO is ultimately a great deal of noise with little substance. Literally and figuratively shrill (100% of the less than subtle metaphors are repeated [twice] in case you manage to miss them and also 100% of the dialogue is shouted), the film somehow manages to make its brief runtime feel overlong.
My favorite repeated visual motif that also nearly acts as a metaphor for the film itself: the bloated lizard grown too fat to escape from his glass container.
