Form follows function, and the artist is skilled enough to turn intangible feelings into something that is legible, paintings, buildings, etc. Without the all decoration you're forced to see something for what it is. Great performances, airtight atmosphere. I really appreciate how eggers does dialogue - it’s period but not impenetrable to a modern audience.
Can drag/feel redundant at times (many a scene emphasizing just how super duper evil orlok is) and I feel like the final sacrifice would’ve been more heartbreaking had we spent more time appreciating how dear Ellen’s life is to her but it’s still all very effective.
