Mikey and Nicky 1976
I liked this in fits and starts, but not enough. It has the problem that often bedevils these movies about difficult male friendships — why would Mikey even be friends with this guy? The movie makes some efforts to answer this question, but they come up short. Warren Beatty as the hit man worried about his mileage reimbursement is the best part.

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood 2019
A real departure for Tarantino, whose style over his last several pictures has been to dispense with everything that isn't a major setpiece and trust the audience to follow. Megalopolis 2024
This was the craziest, weirdest, dumbest, most fantastic experience I have had in a cinema as long as I can remember. The movie has essentially no dramatic structure, the stakes are all entirely gossamer (and aren’t even really resolved), the setting makes little sense, and every dramatic conflict is either resolved or abandoned three minutes later, frequently both. It’s the film of the year.
You absolutely have to go see this, and you have to do it in the theater.…
