I don't mind a film stealing another work's gimmick, but I do mind them stealing it and doing it worse. The movie takes Pinter's Betrayal's relationship-backwards structure and makes one of the characters a complete monster, making the whole thing a dull march through a series of terrible things happening to a woman. The film seems to expect us to sympathize with both characters, which, given that he rapes her in one of the first scenes, combined with Ozon's sexist…
