Number of times seen: at least 8.

-"Do women have a role to play in modern society?"
-"Yes, if they're charming and wear striped dresses and dark glasses."

"Breathless" changed my life and my attitude towards art more than any other film I can think of. The other (actually likelier) possibility was that it was "A Hard Day's Night", and I suppose this kinship is no coincidence. That film in just four years was so strongly a legacy of the…

    The Return of the King

    ★★★½

I do immensely admire this was even made. Completely unintentionally(and yet planned from the beginning) it managed to patch up what Bakshi was missing. An uncomfortable decision that makes a lot of people sour on this interpretation of "Return of the King" is the very framing device and the *truly* perplexing and non-linear starting procedure for it, like it seems to be designed for maximum unappeal and like it intentionally wanted to drive away audiences. An important thing to keep in mind is that this film was animated by a crew of only 16 people in just two years, who are all comic artists and designers around Belgrade, and half of which I'm buddies with(it's a small country). I know Aleksa Gajić personally and he's sweetly enthusiastic about his film, personally working on over a third of all the cels and backgrounds. His DIY approach cemented this movie as a passion project and an experiment…

    Serbian Epics

    ★★★½

I'm a Serb living in Belgrade. "Serbian Epics" provides a snapshot of a very, very confused people in 1992, who were not equipped to comb through their history of myths and half-truths, and deal with the cold echo left by President Tito's voice of reassurance.

Although it simmers a scent of a good, filthy, nationalist propaganda film, "Serbian Epics", is in fact a parody of one. It shows Serbian soldiers in the Bosnian war, being machismo hardasses that grow gigantic…
