I don't know if I'll ever see another movie as good as this.
I went in expecting to cry and was pretty stone-faced for most of it, but those last ten minutes...man.
I don't know why I'm on a "bureaucracy bad" and "appreciate life" kick, but I'm not complaining. It is quite the strange coincidence...

Brazil 1985
Ask yourself at the beginning, as I did, why was Mr. Buttle reading A Christmas Carol when he was abducted?
At its core, this film rejects the doctrine that one well-intentioned man, working inside the system, can effect real change. To have this signposted so hard at the beginning is delightful. Perhaps that was obvious, but I loved it. A movie with real vision; visual and auditory treat; confusing mess at times (compliment); and an underrated gem.

A Christmas Story 1983
Consumerism and contentment.
Like great comic strips such as Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes, A Christmas Story portrays children’s rich inner lives, the schoolyard politics, the witty ideas, in a way that is enticing and riveting to adults. I appreciated the Midwest references more on a rewatch, and the orientalism that is a hallmark of its time period.
This film IS Americana, and what an ending.Translated from by
