    When I first saw this film upon its release in 2017, I was deeply touched by its poignant coming of age plotline. Both Timothée Chalamet (who plays Elio) and Armie Hammer (who plays Oliver) deliver stellar performances—deeply engaged and achingly honest.     I have always loved the 1953 version of this sci-fi classic. Some folks have complained about some of the "cheesy" special effects, compared to today's CGI techniques (though not all CGI techniques are created equal).
