Call Me by Your Name 2017
When I first saw this film upon its release in 2017, I was deeply touched by its poignant coming of age plotline. Both Timothée Chalamet (who plays Elio) and Armie Hammer (who plays Oliver) deliver stellar performances—deeply engaged and achingly honest. The Penguin 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I was very happy to have recently watched "The Batman" (2022) to prep for this series, since the events here are a sequel of sorts to that film.

The Godfather 1972
As a standalone production, this grand Francis Ford Coppola film is in a class by itself. From its acting and cinematography to its music and carefully constructed plot, it is the best of its genre.

The War of the Worlds 1953
I have always loved the 1953 version of this sci-fi classic. Some folks have complained about some of the "cheesy" special effects, compared to today's CGI techniques (though not all CGI techniques are created equal).
Nevertheless, if you're seeing wires holding up the Martian ships, it's because later prints of the film used Eastman Color to sharpen the images, making wires, which were not visible in the original three-strip Technicolor film, more apparent. They've corrected all this in later restorations.…
