Oh my. I was prepared for an extreme last 45 minutes. But that managed to shock me nonetheless. Might be off base but saw homages to some wonderful movies (Requiem for a Dream, The Fly, Alien). You don’t need me to analyze the themes. They’re self-evident, better left for women to speak on, but nonetheless really important. Not a movie to be watched alone, watching with a friend will definitely add to the experience.

A Real Pain 2024
A solid, simple story. I am most definitely a Kieran Culkin fan, whether TV, movie, or awards speeches. I’ve had a few friends like Benji throughout my life. I definitely resonated with the Benji experience; the vacillating thrill of being in the person’s orbit with the fear of their unpredictability and the suffocating sadness of their loneliness. I know I’m not the only one wondering if this is the Kieran Culkin experience too.

The King of Staten Island 2020
Nobody’s better at mixing bittersweet with comedy than Apatow. Great performances. Always been a fan of Bill Burr as a comedian, shows a little extra here. That Kid Cudi song has burrowed into my brain and shows no indication of relenting. Oh and my little girl is adorable as Kelly. 😃

Companion 2025
The family and I have been intrigued by this one since seeing the trailer. Definitely didn’t disappoint, but not a perfect movie. Really enjoyed all the performances. Would’ve liked it if they held onto the twist a bit longer to build on the tension and bizarre vibes. My biggest issue was I thought it fell apart in the final act. Up to that point though I was really enjoying the ride.
