I expected the caricatures, but what I could not have predicted was how utterly bored I would be. Felt like I was watching the B plot of one of De Niro’s classics. In fact I found myself fantasizing about watching Goodfellas multiple times throughout.

The Substance 2024
Oh my. I was prepared for an extreme last 45 minutes. But that managed to shock me nonetheless. Might be off base but saw homages to some wonderful movies (Requiem for a Dream, The Fly, Alien). You don’t need me to analyze the themes. They’re self-evident, better left for women to speak on, but nonetheless really important. Not a movie to be watched alone, watching with a friend will definitely add to the experience.

Nobody’s better at mixing bittersweet with comedy than Apatow. Great performances. Always been a fan of Bill Burr as a comedian, shows a little extra here. That Kid Cudi song has burrowed into my brain and shows no indication of relenting. Oh and my little girl is adorable as Kelly. 😃

It’s a no for me dawg. The best part of the movie for me was it often made me think of There Will Be Blood. Unfortunately I consistently wished I was watching that masterpiece instead.
